Bay Bush Action

In Te Ngahere some people came in and they were named Brad and Stella. They are part of something called Bay Bush Action and what do they do for our ngahere is kill pests. They also gave us 10 rat traps and we put them around our school. Brad said that we could be the first to school with no pest. Every lunch one person from Bay Bush Action group would go and check the rat traps. What I enjoyed was learning Te Ngahere.

In Te Ngahere we have to write a description about Te Ngahere.

We had pictures and we could look at them and get some ideas off them.

The thing I need to do better is add more detail  to my writing What I did well was the writing

A bright green bush and the blue sky like nothing else. The  moss like it belongs there.
The plants fresh like the sky.

A kiwi sprinting  like it was getting chased by something. An owl screeching for its babies.

The bamboo brown forest was a leafy paradise. Trees are the castles of wood.

 The teak-brown forest was a woody heaven. Every step a cracking sound under your feet.

explanation

In Te Ngahere we had to write a explanation about healthy ecosystems. Before we were at that stage we had to learn about how the ecosystems and that was kinda hard. The things that I found challenging was probably the writing. What I need to do better is probably I'm not sure but something.
What is a Healthy ecosystem?

healthy ecosystem has non living and living things. The non living things are water, rocks, sand, shells and salt. The living things  are animals, seaweed and Sea snails. Every one thing in the ecosystem has a job if one bit in the ecosystem gets damaged, the whole thing gets damaged. In a ecosystem must have producers, consumers and  decomposers.

Producers are plants that use the sun for their energy. Producers are important because the consumers eat the producers for energy.  Kelp is a example of a producer.

Consumer are animals that eat plants and  other consumers. For example carpet sharks eat crayfish and they're both consumers. If there wasn't any consumers there would just  be producers. A kina is a example of a consumer.

A decomposer is a thing that breaks down dead matter and eats dead animals. Bacteria eats dead matter and  so that's a decomposer. Bacteria breaks down dead matter.

Ecosystems are  fragile and they can get easily broken. We humans are doing the most damage to ecosystems. For example everyone is overfishing and catching too much snapper and crayfish. So there's nothing to eat the kina so  the kina Is eating too much kelp. It might create a kina baron and there will be no places for fish to hide. The result is that there's no Sea Life in the area because the ecosystem is broken.

Poem

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about poems and how to write them.

It was hard but I enjoyed it. What I did well wad describing myself well but you don’t add too much writing or that would be a story. What I didn’t do well was I pretty much had the same poem from last year.

In Te Ngahere we have be learning about food chains and I made animation. Before we made the  animation we had learn about food chain. The thing I did well was the animation. The thing I can do better was try and give it more detail.  

My pepeha

In the last few weeks I have been learning to say my pepeha.  I wrote my pepeha and made a visual pepeha. I have also recorded myself saying my pepeha.We are learning to add our family onto our pepeha.  What I think II did best was I included all of the my family that I knew of. My next steps are to include all of my grandparents and my mothers maiden name. I also need to learn to say it confidently.

Science Week

In Paihia school we have been doing Science Week. Science week is when you go to every senior teacher and do some science. My teacher did oobleck and my friend Sam’s teachers one made sherbet and lemonade and the other made a straw airplane.   My other friend Josh his teacher was making cars and stuff.  My favourite was making the oobleck because oobleck is hard and soft at the same time pretty much.  If you hit your hand really hard it's a solid.  If you just slightly put your finger in it's a liquid. Now you learned something about oobleck.
