In Te Maunga we have been learning first aid. We learnt the DRSABCD. The letters of DRSABCD all stand for different things you need to do to help an injured person. The first thing you need to remember to do is look for danger to yourself. The second thing to do is if you patient looks unconscious, is to tap them on the shoulder five times and talk loudly to them and ask them if they are alright to check if they are really unconscious or not. The third thing is to send for help. Call 111 or get someone else to call or get an adult to help. If your patient is unconscious, the first thing you do is check their airway to see if anything is blocking it. Tilt their head back and lift their chin, check their is nothing in their mouth. We also learnt to how put a bandage on someone and make a cast. I feel like I just learnt a whole lot of new things about what to do to help people if their is an accident.
